6:15-6:35 – Principal’s Report 

  • School Safety
    • Plans are in place and are being strengthened
    • Extra watchful at dismissal time
    • First lockdown drill will be next week, Wednesday
    • Parents will be notified this week
    • Pete will give a brief explanation about the drill and how it should work
    • Families can discuss as they feel appropriate
    • There are other drills in the year, but they are more refreshers – this is an actual drill
    • You can opt-out if you wish
    • The district also emailed info out
    • The teachers stress to the kids that drills are done to practice but look to minimize student stress
  • Referendum
    • Board has approved – voted on November 4th
    • Team will be discussing how to message to families
    • 500K home will pay $23 a month if referendum passes
    • Jonathan does an excellent job of personalizing experiences, special ed, social, emotional, etc. all of which are funded through school budgets
    • Class sizes could be impacted
    • Kindergarten para support is impacted
    • We went into cost containment this year
    • If referendum doesn’t pass, we will have a 7-million-dollar deficit
    • This would help manage class sizes
    • This would also let us make the GT teacher full-time

  • School year has started off strong – great to have kids back in the classroom and our talented teachers as well
  • The school acknowledges that many students suffer from anxiety – JES is happy to help – reach out for resources if you need them.

  • Sponsorship Updates and Requests
    • We ask local businesses to sponsor
      • 3 tiers, 250, 500 and 1000
      • There is a summary of it in a document
      • Reach out to Katrina if you would like to help secure sponsorships

6:40 – 6:55 - PTO Team Updates

  • Fall Event
    • 9/26 from 5 – 7
    • Food trucks – will give us 10% back
      • Hot Dogs
      • Pizza karma
      • Eagle concessions
      • Smooth move smoothies
    • Loop the event into the RAT

    • Baron of Bubbles is confirmed – magician with bubbles
    • Mostly just a community event – kids are playing
    • Sign up for RAT
    • Spirit wear pop up shop
  • Read-a-thon
    • Primary fundraiser for the year
    • tons of things are funded by the money raised
    • less emphasis on counting minutes
    • theme is reading is magic – should feel like a chore
    • Target is $35K – last year we raised $37K
    • Reading activities for all
    • Book reviews – can do as many as they want – earn you entries
    • Magical reading quest – fun reading activities – earn you entries
    • Reading raffle – can win coupons, gc’s, jes gear, etc.
    • Fundraising raffle is more money generating
    • If anyone is interested in helping secure items, let us know
    • Can win a kindle, ride to school in a firetruck
    • Big prize for school is a magic show at school
    • Joanie has reached out to all local sports teams
    • One idea is for a rock-out session in a band’s practice space
    • Perhaps we could use a map as a motivator
    • Get moving through Fund Hub – helps us manage the fundraising
